La Mata is a part of Torrevieja. It is also known as Torrelamata. It is a seaside resort situated in the south of Spain on Costa Blanca. Before tourism developed in this region, La Mata was a traditional, small Spanish village, whose economy was mainly based on the trade of salt from the local lagoon.
La Mata is becoming more and more popular with tourists because of its delightful beaches. Although Costa Blanca is popular with international tourists, La Mata is very popular with Spanish tourists. It is surrounded by a large, salt lake and a national park (The Parque Natural de La Mata y Torrevieja), it has got large beaches and an attractive coastline. It has got over 11 kilometres of a beach that is connected to the beach of Guardamar del Segura.
In the area there are shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. If you visit La Mata, you can always enjoy favourable weather conditions, which makes it an all -year- round resort. It is easy to get here as it is close to Torrevieja and it can be reached from N-332 road.
It is a perfect place for a family holiday. You will find all kinds of facilities here. La Mata has very good bus links with Torrevieja which also offers many tourist attractions such as the aqua park, night club or the Habaneras shopping centre.
From Alicante airport it is a 35-minute drive. It is best to use the N-332 road. From Murcia San Javier airport it is about 30-minute drive.
