Pink lagoon ...
Although the bath is not allowed, the pink lagoon is very popular and visited in the summer due to the favorable health properties of salt and mud near the shore.
You do not have to look far to enjoy nature in its purest state and that in the province of Alicante you can admire the natural environment at national and international levels such as the Natural Park of Las Lagunas de la Mata y Torrevieja.
This enclave of 37 km², located between Guardamar and Torrevieja, was declared a Natural Park in 1994, and more than half of its area is occupied by two most precious gems: two peculiar salty lakes, one pink and one green.
Laguna Salada de Torrevieja is the largest and only one pink lake in Europe. Its unique color is due to the microorganisms that settle it.
The colors and the view are amazing - the white, red and salt-watered shore of the lake and the pink water strongly contrasting with the blue sky make an amazing impression.
Thanks to its rich biological and environmental richness, this natural park is a refuge for many migratory birds. Together with El Hondo and Santa Pola it is a wetland enclave that is important for the development of biological cycles of many species. Among them is the flamingo population, which is one of the largest in Spain (it reached 2000 such pink birds) and black-necked grebe (up to 3000 copies).
In order to be able to see the fauna or huge lagoon, there are several terraces or viewing towers in the park, used as bird observatory (binoculars recommended) from which the photos are spectacular and unique.
The park has very easy and well marked trails that are ideal for quiet walks or hikes, and there are several picnic areas to relax and rest in the shade of trees.
The area is very well maintained and access to the Park is very simple: from Alicante you can easily get to the N332 in the direction of Torrevieja, taking exit road CV-895 towards Los Montesinos.
