Sport in Spain has been dominated by football (since the 20th century), basketball, cycling, tennis, indoor football and motor sports, whereas the most frequently practised sport is athletics. At the moment Spain is a world sport power and the organisation of the 1992 Summer Olympics has contributed to popularisation of many sport disciplines in this country.
Real Madrid Club de Futbol- a Spanish sports club founded in 1902. It is famous for its successes that have been achieved by the team since its beginnings. The team has won the Spanish Campionship 32 times, the UEFA Championship Cup- 10 times and many other trophies including the recognition as the FIFA Club of the 20th Century.
Futbol Club Barcelona- a sports club that has existed since the foundation of the football team. Established in 1899 by a group of Swiss, English and Spanish footballers, with time it became a Catalan sports institution of a great social importance. Its pride is Lionel Messi.
The football team is one of the most titled teams in the world- it has won twenty-two Spanish Championships, ten Supercups of Spain, four UEFA cups, four UEFA Cup Winners' Cups, four UEFA supercups, two Club World Cups and many others.
Spain offers many tourists attractions because of its rich sports infrastructure, which mainly includes facilities for watersports, golf or skiiing.
The Iberian Peninsula country has the 13th position in the world in terms of the largest amount of sports achievements according to the ranking by Havas Sports& Entertainment based on the comparison of results in the international competitions in 52 different competitions in many countries over the previous year.
Spain can also boast the title of the world champion in disciplines such as fencing, padel (a combination of squash and tennis), futsal, water polo, sailing, boxing, acrobatic gymnastics, athletics, football, basketball or badminton. Moreover, Spanish representatives are a world power in martial arts, especially karate, taekwondo and judo.
